Luigino Bruni's series of Bible commentaries in Avvenire continues under the title: "The Dawn of Midnight", on the Book of Jeremiah
by Luigino Bruni
Summary : Ideology is the creation of a consolatory reality in order to maintain power. The prophets unmask this ideology and announce the truth, suffering because of the words they say. That's one of the differences between true and false prophecy.
"...he went forth into the mountain, where Moses climbed up, and saw the heritage of God. And when Jeremiah came thither, he found an hollow cave, wherein he laid the tabernacle, and the ark, and the altar of incense, and so stopped the door. And some of those that followed him came to mark the way, but they could not find it."
Second Book of the Maccabees
Faithfulness is one of those words that are capable of saying all that there is to say about life. An existence is made up of many words and a lot of things, but if we were to choose only one, faithfulness would be a very strong candidate. Faithfulness is almost everything; faithfulness, perhaps, is everything. Faithfulness to the foundation pacts of our existence, to marriage, our profession, to friendships, to the voice that called us one day by making us start on the greatest journey. It is faithfulness that warms our heart during the winters, that consoles the soul when everything else passes and makes us pronounce our name without shame. It is the most beautiful legacy we leave to our children.

Building an Economy of Communion. A new vision for the Economy and Business
In today’s world, globalization presents to us significant challenges such as poverty, inequality, unemployment, and forced migration… All these situations make us question if this is the world we want and if the economy can change for the better.
The Economy of Communion project (EOC) offers a new perspective facing these challenges: a new business culture where free enterprises become the cradle of a culture of giving, that fosters fraternity, social bonds, sustainability, and communion, rather than individualism and profit as an end in itself.
The Call for Papers for the upcoming EoC Research Summer School taking place in Holland is out now. Its main topic is research on the EoC
23-27 August , 2017 Marienkroon Conference Center, Abdijlaan 8, 5253 VP Nieuwkuijk – Holland
This multidisciplinary Summer School will reflect on ‘economy’ and ‘communion’, two words that are frequently perceived as being very distant from each other both in academic literature and applied sciences. The primary proposal and challenge behind this Summer School, therefore, is precisely to generate the space to examine these terms together and to focus on their interplay: an ‘economy of communion’.
"When he brought the ready drink to Jeremiah's bedside, he was breathing quietly in his sleep. "Since I cannot hide it from the world, how can I hide it from you?" ..."Hide what?" (...). "The Lord was with me... And his voice spoke to me. And his voice is sending me away from here." Abi's eyes filled with tears. She did not cry because the Lord had come to him. Shouldn't she be proud of all the women of Jacob? And yet Abi's heart broke with sorrow for the election of her son."
Franz Werfel,Hearken Unto the Voice
There is a conflict, a radical tension, between the prophets and power. For many reasons, but above all because the prophet, by his task and vocation, can see the natural tendency of every power - above all the one dressed in a sacred mantle - getting distorted and turning into tyranny.
Carmen Bollea De Santos, Argentinian entrepreneur from Tucuman left us yesterday early morning.
by Carmen de Amarillo
It's not easy to describe Carmen. If I had to pick one word, it would be "cyclone". Wherever she showed up she revolutionized everything ... And she managed to be everywhere: at the birthday of the bishop's mother, in the field, in the Federation of Argentinean Businessmen, in the EoC meetings... She was interested in everything and she wanted to record everything. She never gave up until she managed to keep going.
This was the first time that the EoC was featured at an event from the World Bank, a financial institution that is part of the United Nations systems and whose mission is to help reduce poverty.
51 people attended the session representing various NGOs from all over the world, World Bank employees, The International Monetary Fund, and the Bretton Woods Project. The session had the title “Impact Investment as a Tool for Social Development”. Nick Sanna represented the EoC.
